Mother’s Day

Why we celebrate Mother’s Day

Ever wondered why we give Mother’s Day flowers?

Although there is some historical evidence to suggest that mothers were celebrated byAncient Greeks who honoured their Greek goddesses during a Spring festival, it isgenerally accepted the reasons for celebrating the day are a more recent Christianevent in the UK and perhaps attributed to Ancient Romans who worshipped the goddess Cybele during mid-March.

Although Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days in other countries, in the UK it is traditionally on the 4th Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period of Christian fasting before Easter), historically as a tribute to the Virgin Mary and Christian mothers.

It was later expanded to include all mothers of any faith and subsequently became known as Mothering Sunday.  This year Mother’s Day is celebrated on Sunday 31st March 2019.

Regardless of the foundations of this occasion, there is no doubt that all mothers should be celebrated, honoured and remembered for the love, care and dedication they give selflessly and unconditionally.

Every mother deserves the very best of luxury and pampering so what better way to show you love her, than with a stunning bouquet.  At Flowers by Louise we know how important it is to bring pleasure and happiness to mothers so we pride ourselves in creating unique and special floral dedications for Mother’s Day.

“Motherhood brings as much joy as ever, but it still brings boredom, exhaustion, and sorrow too. Nothing else ever will make you as happy or as sad, as proud or as tired, for nothing is quite as hard as helping a person develop his own individuality especially while you struggle to keep your own.”

Marguerite Kelly and Elia Parsons

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”

Washington Irving
