The lily is the most well known of the Easter flowers. A popular symbol during the Easter festival, the white lily is held as the traditional Easter Flower and represents love, purity and hope. Churches are usually decorated with white lilies during Easter for a number of religious and historical reasons.
The single flower stem originating from a bulb represents the resurrection of Christ three days after his apparent death by crucifixion. The Bible tells us that wherever Christ’s blood fell, lilies grew and bloomed to mark his passing and eternal imprint on the earth but another version tells us that they grew wherever Christ shed a tear. Some Catholics regard white lilies as the symbol of the purity and divinity of Jesus Christ and dedicate them to his mother, Virgin Mary.
Giving the gift of white lilies to someone during Easter is taken as a sign that you are very happy to be acquainted with that person. Whereas, giving yellow lilies represents your request or advice for that person to “live for the moment”. The Calla Lily is a modern and stunning alternative to the more traditional species.
